The Var, located in the heart of the Côte d’Azur, is a prime destination for kayaking enthusiasts. Between the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, the Argens river in Fréjus, and its lakes, the variety of landscapes offers a multitude of experiences for a kayaking getaway with family, friends, as a couple, or solo.
Welcome to the Southeast of France, brimming with exotic spots to enjoy a budget-friendly kayaking excursion—whether at sea, on a lake, or on a river. Glide along in a kayak at the foot of a volcano; it’s here and nowhere else!
Picture yourself gliding along the rugged coastlines of the Estérel in Saint-Raphaël, where red rocks plunge into a deep blue sea. The calanques of the Estérel, with their hidden coves, secret beaches, and caves, provide an idyllic setting for canoe-kayak lovers. Exploring these unspoiled corners will leave you awestruck by the wild beauty and peaceful atmosphere that reign there.
From Fréjus to Ramatuelle, there are beautiful beaches to discover. You can rent a canoe-kayak for a few hours and, for instance, head to the Bay of Sardinaux, where the water is crystal clear. Enjoy a quiet swim far from the crowds.
La Baumette beach in Agay is also nicknamed the lagoon: ideal for beginners thanks to the very slight swell and its turquoise waters.
From this spot, the view of the Estérel massif is spectacular: steep cliffs, rocky peaks, and lush vegetation unfold before your amazed eyes.
We have plenty of promotional prices on our site! We recommend reserving your kayak rental 1 or 2 days in advance during the summer season.
The Argens river meanders through verdant landscapes between Roquebrune-sur-Argens and Fréjus, winding its way to the sea with routes suitable for all levels. In summer, you’ll see a real change of scenery! You’ll be immersed in nature, in peaceful surroundings, and the water is cooler than the sea (only about 10 minutes away by car).
This river allows you to kayak in complete tranquility, as there are no rapids and you can simply enjoy the local flora and fauna. A true escape guaranteed!
Two water sports centers along the river offer rentals from 1 hour to half a day, giving you just enough time to reach the sea.
What to bring: Don’t forget your picnic! Find a quiet little spot along the route to enjoy lunch surrounded by nature.
This activity is safe for children as young as 5, posing no danger.
Two large lakes await you for a relaxing outing with family or friends:
Lac de Saint-Cassien in the Pays de Fayence—known as the emerald lake—is surrounded by verdant hills, making it a prime spot for a kayaking trip with family or friends. Its calm waters invite contemplation and serenity. You can have a picnic there or grab a meal at one of the many nearby restaurants. Note that parking can be tricky in the summer, so plan to arrive early.
Several water sports centers are open during the summer season, each offering access to picnic tables and a snack bar.
Lac Perrin, also known as “Aréna”, in Roquebrune-sur-Argens offers a breathtaking view of the majestic Rocher de Roquebrune, making every kayak outing unique and memorable.
You’ll also find plenty of activities here, such as a giant water park, play areas for children, a treetop adventure course, pedal boats, and more. You could easily spend the entire day and purchase a multi-activity pass!
Take advantage of it: All the activities offered around these areas are on promotion on our site!
Make your kayaking trip in the Var truly unique by renting a transparent kayak. This craft allows you to marvel at the underwater world while you paddle, offering a fresh and fascinating perspective on marine life. Paddling in a transparent kayak lets you become one with the water, feeling in total harmony with the marine environment.
Not sure where to go kayaking? Unfamiliar with the Eastern Var region? Join a small group in the coves and calanques for a half-day excursion with a certified guide who will take you to some of the most beautiful spots on the Côte d’Azur. For example, you might paddle all the way to a “natural pool” in open water near the Île des Vieilles (off the coast of Le Trayas, in Saint-Raphaël). This site, not far from the shoreline, is unique and perfect for a swim…
Another route departs from La Baumette beach, exploring the Estérel coves & calanques in Agay.
In the summer, guides also offer sunset canoe-kayak excursions—an unforgettable experience that will create memories to last a lifetime.
