Domaine des Tournels in Ramatuelle; the perfect setting for horseback riding and wine tasting

The Domaine des Tournels is a lovely estate made up of 55 hectares of vines and a view over the superb Bay of Pampelonne. It is on this land that the horse ride through the vines will take place. With a certified horse riding instructor guiding a maximum of 6 riders to guarantee a relaxed atmosphere. Throughout the route, the guide will share fascinating stories with you about the region and the different wine-growing practices of the estate.

This region is not just perfect for its scenery, but it is also recognized as part of the Côtes de Provence appellation, where the vineyards of Ramatuelle are located. Having received its full AOC status back in 1977, the appellation today spans across 84 communes in the Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, and Alpes-Maritimes departments. This region boasts a winemaking history that dates back an impressive 2,600 years, starting with the Phocaean Greeks who introduced vines to Marseille around 600 BC.

Riding horseback through these vineyards allows visitors to connect with a landscape that has remained remarkably unchanged over the centuries—filled with vines, olive trees, and that beautiful Mediterranean light that has attracted settlers and travelers for ages.

Priced from 69€ per person, which includes a tasting, this outing is a fantastic deal for anyone looking to experience the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Regular departures are on Thursdays, but other days can be arranged upon request.

The perfect Vineyard Ride for Beginners and Families Seeking Well-Being

During this horse ride at Domaine des Tournels, everything is designed with your well-being in mind. The horses are chosen for their gentle nature and their familiarity with the trails through the vineyards, and children can take part from the age of 7.

The ride lasts one hour at walking pace, with a calm rhythm and no pressure to trot or canter, helping to reassure beginner riders.

As proof of the benefits, a study by the University of Hamburg showed that horse riding improves mental well-being. Similarly, research carried out by the British Horse Society indicates that more than 80% of riders feel happier and more relaxed after a horse ride — which says a lot!

And with a tasting at the end, this experience is perfect for families of all ages: parents can enjoy the wines while children taste fruit juice, and everyone leaves with a precious memory of a horse ride through the beautiful vineyards of the Côte d’Azur.

Abi

A lovely gentle ride with some lovely wines!

Commenté le 11/07/2025

This was a lovely experience, riding around the vineyards with a lovely guide explaining the wine producing process. Ponies were safe and well behaved and views were amazing. The wine was excellent and well explained during the tasting. We did set off a bit late which meant the hour horse riding was reduced to 45 mins and it was a bit confusing how to get from the car park to the ponies, but despite those little issues I would recommend this tour :)

Thank you very much Abi and glad to read you enjoyed your time with us and the wines. Indeed it can be difficult to reach the ranch as it is not on google maps that is why we ask guests to come earlier and we accompany them to the ranch from the estate. But unfortunately yes when people arrive after we left they have to reach it by themselves which can be challenging so please for the ones reading make sure you arrive well on time even before :) Thank you for sharing your experience with us Abi !

Can beginners ride this vineyard trail in Ramatuelle?

Absolutely! If you're looking for a fun equestrian experience in Ramatuelle, this horse ride is perfect for you. No prior experience is needed, making it a great option for beginners, and kids as young as 7 can join in on the fun! The ride lasts about an hour, taking you through the beautiful Domaine des Tournels vineyards, and afterward, you'll get to enjoy a guided tasting of three of their estate wines.
For beginners, vineyard horse rides are usually a great fit when the route is short, well-supervised, and at a relaxed walking pace. It's important that the trail clearly outlines age limits, required footwear, and whether prior riding experience is required.

How many wines are tasted after the ride?

While adults get to savor three estate wines, children will be offered fruit juice as a tasty non-alcoholic option.
The guided wine tasting takes place at Domaine des Tournels right after the horse ride, with the whole experience lasting about 1.5 hours
