Sightseeing Flight over the Estérel: 15 Minutes of Panorama
Imagine soaring over the stunning Estérel massif, where a breathtaking sightseeing flight takes you across a volcanic mountain range that dates back a whopping 250 million years to the Permian period. It was during this time that fiery eruptions shaped the striking red rhyolite cliffs, which now dramatically drop into the Mediterranean Sea between Saint-Raphaël and Mandelieu.
This unusual 15- to 20-minute experience gently takes you up to an altitude of 300 metres, flying over the beautiful beach of Saint-Aygulf, the peaceful Villepey ponds, and the famous bay of Fréjus–Saint-Raphaël. As you admire the scenery, you’ll spot the iconic Lion de Mer rock as well as the striking red ridges of the Estérel, an ancient volcano. Your experienced, fully qualified pilot will comment on what you are seeing below, with the information broadcast directly through your headset. Along the way, they will highlight the main landmarks and share fascinating insights into the geology of this volcanic coastline.

Instructor-Guided Aircraft Rides: Safety Briefing and Live Commentary

Taking a ride in a microlight is an experience like no other, and it all starts with a qualified instructor-pilot who ensures your safety through a thorough briefing. During the flight, they keep you engaged by narrating the stunning landscape through your headset. This effortless, stable ride is made possible by design: the French Civil Aviation Authority classifies these as ultra-lightweight aircraft, capping them at a 450 kg maximum take-off weight and a low stalling speed to ensure safe, gentle daytime visual flights.
Before take-off, the provider informs each passenger about how the microlight works, how the flight will unfold, the gradual climb to an altitude of 300 metres, and the instructions for communicating with the pilot once in the air.

As you glide through the sky, the instructor draws your attention to beautiful sights such as the Villepey ponds, the bay of Fréjus–Saint-Raphaël, and the majestic Estérel massif. This flight becomes much more than a simple ride: it is a truly enriching aerial adventure.
Commentary is available in English, French, or Italian, making the experience accessible to all passengers. Please make sure to mention in advance if you do not speak French.

Microlight flight for several people:

You can opt for a duo or trio experience in a squadron, each in their own plane, to enjoy a unique moment together. Take a photo of each other in your planes and wave to each other; the pilots will make sure to fly in line.

These light aircraft are two-seaters, so they can only carry the pilot and their accompanying student.

For groups, we offer “Squadron” flights, flying close together to take off together and follow each other throughout the flight.

How to book your flight?

Select the date from the calendar to schedule your tandem microlight flight, choose the time slot, and confirm your basket. Payment will only be debited once the service provider has confirmed your request. If the chosen slot is no longer available, they will offer you another one based on your availability.

Private Aircraft Flights as a Gift: Celebration and Gift Vouchers

The 15- or 20-minute flight over the stunning Estérel region is a popular choice for celebrations like birthdays, bachelorette parties, and anniversary surprises. Plus, the gift voucher is sent electronically so that it can be printed or shared right away. With Squadron options, two or three people can fly together in different aircraft, transforming a solo gift into a fun group experience.
Flying Safari’s team also provides a GoPro photo and video add-on for just €30, which can be booked on-site. This way, the recipient can take home amazing footage of their flight from take-off to landing.

“A word from the team”:

I was given this maiden flight as a bachelorette party gift. Hervé, the manager, welcomed us, and the girls, who stayed at the base, captured the moment while I was getting ready for takeoff.

It was an incredible moment. I know the area well, having been born there, but seeing Saint Raphaël/Fréjus from the sky is so sensational!

The Villepey ponds that border the sea are exceptional, another world... The instructor explained the environment and attractions we were discovering to me through my headset. I was like a child in awe! He offered to let me fly for a few seconds. What an adventure! I took a few photos from the sky, and then it was already time to come back down. The flight may seem short, but it's intense and a great introduction.

Frequently asked questions:

What is a microlight?

A microlight, short for ultralight aircraft, is a small, lightweight two-seater aircraft designed primarily for leisure flights and pilot training.

How long does a two-seater microlight flight last?

It lasts 15 to 20 minutes, during which you will have the opportunity to fly over the magnificent bay of Saint-Raphaël - Fréjus, the sandy beaches of Saint-Aygulf, and the Villepey ponds, with a bird's-eye view of the Roquebrune-sur-Argens rock and the Estérel massif.

Is it possible to take photos or videos during the flight?

Yes, you can take photos and videos with your phone. We strongly recommend that you use a cord to attach your phone to your neck to prevent it from falling. You also have the option of choosing the GoPro photo and video option for an additional €30 (to be booked on site on the day of the activity).

Is there a weight limit for passengers wishing to fly in a microlight?

Yes, the maximum weight is 100 kg.

What does a guided flight discovery over the Esterel include?

You will fly over the bay of Saint Raphaël Fréjus, with views of the Villepey, Saint Aygulf, Fréjus, and Saint Raphaël lagoons and the Estérel mountains.

Can two people fly in a microlight during a maiden flight?

No, the aircraft is designed for the pilot (your guide) and one passenger (you) only. However, if there are two or three of you, you can book a 15-minute flight in formation, which means that the aircraft take off at the same time and you can see each other in the air.

Can microlight flights be taken all year round?

Yes, you can take off from Fréjus in these light aircraft all year round. The cockpit is closed and heated in winter, and in summer the windows are open so you can enjoy the gentle air at altitude.

How old do you have to be to take a microlight flight in Fréjus?

This activity is available to children aged 6 and over, provided they are willing and in good health.

Can you get vertigo during a two-seater microlight flight?

No. There is no feeling of vertigo during a microlight flight because you are not connected to the ground by a fixed point. The flight is smooth, pleasant, and perfectly suited to sensitive individuals.

Which flight package should I choose?

Mini flight (7 min): ideal for a first experience or a tight budget - prices start at €40.

Discovery flight (15-20 min): perfect for enjoying a wider view of Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël, and the Estérel. Both packages offer exceptional views of the bay.

Where does the microlight flight depart from in Fréjus?

Flights depart from the Flying Safari microlight airfield, located in Saint-Aygulf (700 m from the sea). Exact address: 645 chemin de la Sablière, 83370 Saint-Aygulf / Fréjus.

What makes flying over the Esterel unique?

What sets flying over the Esterel apart is the breathtaking view of a volcanic landscape that dates back 250 million years to the Permian period. This area was shaped by powerful eruptions that left behind rhyolite. This striking red porphyry rock gives the entire massif its unique hue, making it one of Europe’s rare coastal volcanic ranges. Spanning 32,000 hectares (almost half of a Natura 2000 site), the red cliffs dramatically drop into the sparkling turquoise waters of the Mediterranean along the Corniche d’Or, a 30-kilometre stretch celebrated as one of France’s most stunning routes—all of which you can admire from the sky.
During this 15- or 20-minute microlight flight, you’ll ascend gently to 300 meters, offering an unparalleled overhead view of the red rhyolite ridges, Saint-Aygulf beach, the bay of Fréjus–Saint-Raphaël, and the iconic Lion de Mer rock—an experience that no car or hiking trail can replicate.
Your qualified instructor pilot will provide live commentary through headsets in English, French, or Italian, and you can take advantage of a promotional price of €65 instead of the usual €70.

Is a microlight flight safe for first-timers?

Yes, it is. Ultralight aviation in France is regulated by the DGAC, which requires all microlight aircraft to hold a valid Certificate of Airworthiness and for pilots to hold a microlight pilot licence after completing theoretical and practical training.
This flight is led by a qualified instructor pilot who provides a full safety briefing before take‑off and explains every phase of the flight through the headset.

Can you buy a microlight flight as a gift?

Many ultralight operators offer gift vouchers valid for 1 year from the date of purchase, giving the recipient flexibility to choose a suitable date and time. The Fédération Française d’ULM encourages gift vouchers to introduce new people to the sport, noting that they can be personalised with a message.
This flight can be purchased as a gift certificate valid for 1 year and covering the 15‑ or 20‑minute Estérel route. The promotional price is €65 instead of the regular €70, and the voucher can be emailed immediately. Squadron options allow two or three people to receive the same gift and fly simultaneously.
